The details:  This kitchen is an Ultracraft, Frameless Kitchen.  The all-wood “Sagamore” door is painted in Beach White.  The spectacular granite is Coral Green and shimmers with the colors of the ocean on a summer day, seaweed green, crystal blue and sandy brown.  A fun light centered on the windows over looks the yard.  Wolf Stove, Paneled Sub Zero Fridge and Paneled Bosch Dishwasher complete the kitchen combining function and style in this open floor plan. The large kitchen island easily fits 5-6 people, with elegant island corbels and paneled back.

New windows, refinished floors and an awesome collection of new pieces from Ethan Allen finished off the open areas just in time for some holiday entertainment.

CAD Kitchen Layout

Many years ago, I took a Windsor Chair Class.  It was incredible.  I learned a lot and met some great new people.

I still sit in this chair at my desk. Looking at the date on the picture, I can’t believe it was 8 years ago.

I think it’s time to learn something new!

Get up, Get OUT, GET GOING

I had the opportunity to collaborate with Mike from Classic Woodworking in Freehold NJ on a recent wine cellar project. The racking was made off site and then installed per the specifications of my design.

This Custom Wine Cellar hold 400 bottles of wine. 

It features traditional ladder racking, wine cubbies for Magnums and a display section for wines ready to open.  Behind a glass door, this wine cellar is sure to catch the eye of every wine enthusiast.

Beauty and Function for this home Chef

One of my favorite cabinet companies is Candlelight.  This White Oak Mission Style Cabinet is a winner, complementing the arts and crafts style of this clients home.

I am a big believer in the “Aha Moment” – when my clients see exactly what they want.  I will tell you what I always tell my clients, if you trust your instincts you will get what you love.

Cabinet selection, Tile selection and Granite Selection are all services that I provide.  My ultimate reward is hearing “Aha” then I know that I have done my job.

I can’t tell you how often people ask me how I got where I am today; a cabinetmaker, kitchen designer, project manager.  It isn’t a glamorous story, but certainly one that I would be willing to share.

We moved to where we now live about 12 years ago.  A working class couple with three small, busy children, we bought a house we had to fill and wanted to make it our own.  We started with renovations, flooring, painting and when that was done we didn’t have any money left for furniture.  And, that’s how it started, I looked up some pieces in Pottery Barn that I wanted and I made them.  Ok…back up….my brothers helped me get started.  I caught on fast and had a natural talent.  Here’s my first piece, an Ebony Wine Rack.  I still have it in my dining room.  I moved on to many other projects including custom built ins, wine cellars and home offices.

Soon thereafter I started working for Timberwolf Woodworking, a custom builder with his own cabinet shop.  I worked there for a year and half, under the cabinetmaker, building skills and learning the tools of the trade.  After that time, I continued to hone my skills, taking classes, learning online and reading everything I could find…until I opened the doors of Hometown Woodworking.

There are a few things that made me successful as owner/cabinetmaker at Hometown Woodworking.  First, I loved what I did and it showed.  Clients talked and I listened.  We collaborated and they got exactly what they wanted.  Second, I used my business, mangement and operations skillset to build a successful business, marketing it and selling myself.  Third, I didn’t have any fear of failure.  The exciting thing about woodworking is that wood is a medium to success.  If the wood does not find success in it’s current state, then you can remake it, sand it, cut it, paint it into something new.  There is no end to what you can create and re create.

I ran Hometown Woodworking for 7 years, working as sole proprietor and cabinetmaker, delivery person, installer, accounting, marketing, floor sweeper.  You get the picture.  With a declining construction economy and a willingness to expand my skills I sought employment in larger firms.  I worked for several different companies, RS Means – a construction data company, Parker Construction - as a project manager on a 30 million dollar residential project, Chestnut Bay Cabinets as a Shop Foreman and Operations Manager and have recently settled into kitchen design and project management.  I work with www.CapeKitchens.com in Sagamore, MA.  What I love about this job is the ability to work hand in hand with my clients, their builders and architects and provide them with concierge service with an incredible cabinet as an end result.
